SBCC Robert J. Profant Teaching Museum

During the summer of 2006 I became more fully involved in the updating and renovation of the small teaching museum we have in the Biological Sciences Department at Santa Barbara City College. I am fully enjoying this project and supervising student interns who help with the many details that are making the museum a fabulous teaching resource.

Marine Tech Reunion

During the summer of 2004 the Marine Technology Department at Santa Barbara City College had a reunion and asked me to give a short presentation. I had taught their students in 1974 and then from 1983 to 1996 in special Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography courses including dive labs especially designed for these students. Click below for the presentation I gave using images of these students in my courses over all these years.

National Geographic and NOAA Antarctic Presentation

During the summer of 2003 I was asked to be a keynote presenter for an online marine course presented by National Geographic and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This course was for teachers in grades K through 12 and included marine lesson presentations, activities, and a key to how each lesson could fit into the curriculum at the different grade levels. I was asked to present my Internet lessons on Antarctica. Most of the presenters were researchers but I was asked to give a presentation as an educator. It was a great experience as I got to answer questions from teachers all over the United States and from six other countries. Below is the link to my presentation, similar to the one in my Marine Science course (Bio. 142). Many of the teachers wanted a quick reference to the presentation so they could use it in their classes. Please click below for my stand-alone Antarctic presentation:

SBCC Faculty Lecturer Presentation

I was honored in the 2001/2002 school year as the college's Faculty Lecturer. This is the highest honor for a faculty member here at SBCC. I had a wonderful year representing the faculty at various events and then gave a special public lecture to my colleagues, staff, students, the Superintendent/President and Vice President as well as many members of the community. Below is a link to the text of my lecture and the images I used in the presentation.
